Discoveries of contraband cell phones in California prisons doubled in 2008 from the year before to 2800. Cell phones smuggled into prisons can be used by inmates to circumvent monitoring of conversations, and to orchestrate criminal activity, plan escapes, and be a menace outside of prison walls. While it is currently a rules violation for an inmate to possess a cell phone, there are no criminal penalties for inmates, their associates, visitors, or staff who might be engaged in cell phone …

Yeah put honest workers on minimum wage, why not have inmate families pay for all services provided to their incarcerrated family members, maybe then CDC can lower its budget, and then it would be too expensive for these guys to keep coming back to prison and the’ll STOP BREAKING THE LAW!!!!

funny how everyone keeps talking about how much money the system makes through the CDCR yet the state just cut our budget by 1.2 billiion and our paychecks by 15 percent, if you had a cash cow like CDCR would you invest more into it rather than cut back? People have no clue how much money goes into inmate programs and health care and education and cost of housing inmates. stuff that you and I pay for they get for free!!!!!

An 8.8 Billion Dollar payroll for the State 5.2 billion of that for CDC employees why?
Time to end this nonsense, put them on minimum wage

And why does california need 33 prisons you ask ? Of course it’s the cpoa that needs the union dues isn’t it ? Why ? Let’s buy some politicians to grow the union stronger and build more then we get more union dues, and we make more money.
I think it’s pretty obvious most of the high school graduate guards would be unemployed if it werent for the state paying, oh and speaking of paying why do they need salaries in excess of 80 grand a year ?
wonder why California is broke?

Did she say they were breaking the law ?
I thought there wasnt a law ?
Let’s face facts, most correctional officers are coollectinig a paycheck like a welfare recipient, the have a strong union, I say disband the union, and stop corrupt guards.
Of course they want a law, it secures their jobs and uses up my tax money

Are we the most evil, and the most dangerous state in this country that we need so many? why is it states that are more populated than we are, have fewer prisons? Either we are more dangerous than they, or we have got something severly wrong. Wake up people, think for yourselves and dont believe the smoke and mirrors.

Get your facts straight, especially when your talking to someone who has first hand knowledge about a corrupt system that is being scrutanized by a three panal judge, and many other high ranking officials. And for those SELECT FEW “guards” that are flying straight, i applaud you. But a question to those viewing, ask yourself: why is it that California is the only state with an outragous number of prisons? 33 prisions, the most in this whole country.

Its amazing, i post a comment and get a negative one in return, with so much miss information that its crazy! I dont even remember who it was from, but let me respond anyway, because im not the part of the public you can just snowblow. you tried to tell me that 99% of “guards” are innocent, thank you, i havent laughed so hard in years. Lets be honest for once, if you would have told me that 10% of “guards” are honest, i would have believed you.

Yes it would be cheaper. However, it is absolutely forbidden by the FCC. Also, jamming is indescriminate and would likely jam the legitimate signals around institutions. I would be a bad thing if someone who just happened to be near an institution couldn’t make a 911 call!

You’re pretty much clueless in most of your post. Unfortunately however, you are correct that a large percentage of the phones come in via staff (at SOME institutions). Those of us “guards” who are just trying to earn an honest living (i.e. 99% of us) hate the staff members who bring in the phones worse than the inmates who have them. We want it to become a serious felony for any staff member who brings in the phones. This is the point of the video.

This is a crock. I know for a fact that the majority of cell phones that come in come in from the guards themselves. The public needs to wake up and stop allowing this corrupt system to pull the wool over there eyes!!!! Wake up people, this is the most costly thing in this state and we are quicker to eliminate budgets for our schools than to eliminate budgets for guards which are in excess!!! You really think they tell you the truth? They show you and tell you only what helps them get more money

First of all, one could call in an air strike with a cell phone. Staff and Inmates should not have them behind prison walls. Yes, staff have brought them inside the walls, most of the time forgetting it is in their pocket. These staff that are caught get terminated or a major pay reduction for up to a year. Doesn’t matter if it was for the inmate or forgotten. As reported, when inmates get caught with a phone they get a paper write-up CDCR 115 lowest division F.

Collect calls are expensive for the family members~inmate families pay top dollars, more than anyone else~most families are poor, especially when the bread winner of the family is in prison~they use cell phones to keep family ties with their children especially,as well as loved ones.If the wanted to plan escapes, there would be 3,000 escapees~

the co/s bring in 90 percent of the phones but they spent all of 3 seconds telling you that an only called them ”staff”

isn’t it more cost effective to get frequency jammers than hiring/ training staff, wasting resources, etc.
i mean it’s nice that people are developing methods to detect more stuff.
