This is a high end model, I am surprised it came dead out of the box!

Dell should work on their quality control with their Chinese made Dells. In the olden days Dell would test each laptop while loading on software, but obviously not any more.
Do not buy, chances are high (given this is a one off model) that others will be dead, or die soon.
It looks pretty and very slick but for the $750 I paid it should work out of the box.
Bummer : ( I will look back at my old favorite Toshiba.

Just received my new 17.3 Inspiron I ordered from QVC. Although the Windows and Internet worked, the facial recognition security program and webcam didn’t. Dell tried, for about three hours this morning to remote access repair the problem, with no success. So they are sending a new hard drive for my install. Just what you like to do when you get a new computer! The above comment about quality control in China seems to be correct. Anyway, I’ll see how it goes when I get the HD but I’ll probably return the computer within the 30 day policy QVC has on their purchases. Thank god for that!

I just bought this inspiron today from Best Buy and it was working great until I downloaded the newest drivers from dell. My mousepad was a lil slow after a few hours so I adjusted it, but it’s not perfect yet. Also when I downloaded the drivers they took forever so I’m not sure what that was all about either. So basically this i5 processor may be worse than my old dell latitude D610.
I’ll report back in 2 weeks because I can return it within that time frame…sad thing is that I would have to pay a 15% restocking fee. But I will say besides that it works great. I’m just a lil sketchy since it’s day one and not perfect so do your homework. But hey for the price….

well so far this machine has worked well as an ordinary laptop. am yet to find out the face recognition potential. please can someone help me out, because i bought 2 dell laptops same week and all claiming to have the face recognition software and am yet to see it work. thanks i will appreciate if someone can help me out . Also when i reviewed this product it was said to have 500GB hard drive but the actual thing is not upto 450GD. as per other aspect it has worked very well so far. please i need explanations thanks again in advance for the explanations
