How do I connect my new Acer laptop to the internet?

I just bought a new acer laptop for college and I know nothing about connecting it to the internet. How do I do so? All the networks need a passowrd. How can I access my home internet – Bright House Road Runner (Michigan)?. Please help! Thank you!

If using a wireless connection – you’ll need to obtain the security code (i.e. WEP key or WPA key) from the network owner before you can connect to the wireless network. If you are using a wired connection, you’ll need to plug a network cable into the cable modem or DSL modem from your internet provider at home, and then plug the other end into your laptop.
