How do i upload music from an Acer laptop to my ipod?

I have an Acer Aspire one and an Ipod shuffle (good for running) and i was wondering is it possible to upload music from my laptop onto my ipod?
i can play my ipod music through the laptop but i cant transfer any music saved onto the laptop onto my ipod.
is there anything i can do? or does it just not work?
My laptop runs on linux by the way.

Normally, windows users use itunes to transfer songs from computer to Ipod. Now since you are running Linux, you cannot run itunes straight away. But you can use wine to install a windows version of the itunes software on the linux OS. Go to the wine website for more details -
