This flash drive is a great value, good price and plenty of space. It’s fancy looking and feels well constructed. It includes the “SecureTraveler” program which allows you to define an amount of memory to be destined for private use (which can only be accesed by using a password). You might like to know that this is not a one time deal as you can change the amount of memory destined for that purpose whenever you want. As far as compatibility, I took a big chance because nowhere in the description did it say it worked with Windows ME, however it does!!! Performance is not as fast as with other operating systems but it is good enough considering how old that OS is.

The only problems I could find with this flash drive are: a) it does not include a lanyard, b) it’s easy to leave fingerprints on the metal part, c) the swiveling metal part does not provide 100% protection to the connecting part (specially from dust). None of these are really a big deal and shouldn’t stop you from buying one.

Other Thoughts:

Overall length: when the metal part swivels open to reveal the actual connector it adds about 2 cms in length (goes from 5.5 cms to 7.5 cms), keep that in mind if working in tight spaces, otherwise not really a big deal.

Speed: Here’s an example from my experience: from Dell Dimension 4100 running Windows ME to Dell Inspiron 9100 running Windows XP SP2: Two 5MB mp3 files: from the 4100 to the flash drive about 30 seconds (keep in mind the 4100 is running under Windows ME), then from the flash drive to the 9100 (running Windows XP): instantly. Two 700MB video files: from the 4100 to the flash drive about 20 minutes (about the same it takes to burn to DVD on that computer); from the flash drive to the 9100 about 1 minute. Running the video files from the flash drive yielded the same performance as if it were being done from the hard drive (awesome!). Deleting all four files: a few seconds on the 4100, instantly on the 9100. Overall: impressive performance!

I haven’t owned it long enough to comment on durability, however, so far I am VERY happy with it and thus if I had to buy another flash drive right now I would absolutely buy another one of these.

Thank you.

Lots of Macs, actually. Prior to this purchase, I had picked up, and returned, an OCZ model that failed to mount in a bus-power keyboard USB port and after that generally failed to work at all. The Kingston model has exceeded my expectations. It mounts under OS 9, OS X, in keyboard USB hubs, in 8 year-old powered hubs, old Macs, new Macs… It just works! I can’t speak to its speed, and though read speed is clearly faster than write, I am pleased with file copies.

If there were a downside, it could be that the LED is tiny and occasionally hidden by some plug orientations. I like the swing-away cover, but I’d actually like to have an indent so that it snaps in the open and closed positions. The size overall is excellent, and though it doesn’t come with a lanyard–there is such a proliferation of lanyards in the industry, I have many already that will work–it has a punch-out in the metal cover for one. It has been so versatile and reliable, I’m buying another.

This was exactly what I needed. A small usb flash drive with lots of space for a reasonable price. I keep all of my work on this drive and work directly from the drive and I haven’t noticed any significant difference from working from files on my computers internal drive. I like the swivel cover but I wish that it snapped into place snugly over the connector (I had another drive that did this and it was really convenient). I feel like drive is good quality. I would definitely recommend this product.

Works flawlessly on my XP machine. Even got it to work (the whole 16Gb!) on an old Win98se laptop (4Gb hard drive) after installing a generic driver (w95usbflash11.zip).

Pros: The best thing is that there is no cap to lose. The yellow color helps to locate it quickly as it is pretty small. Since it is small and not bulky, you shouldn’t have any problems plugging in another USB item into the port next to where this flash drive plugged in. Also it is good that flash drive prices have fallen.

Cons: Like the other reviewer said, the metal swivel protector does not lock into place over the USB connector. Would have given it five if the swivel protector locked.

I bought two of these.
