Pros:

-Good general keyboard

-Reasonable, not crazy number of special keys

-Volume down button will turn your sound to the lowest level, but doesn’t mute, only the separate mute button completely mutes the sound, I REALLY like this feature

Cons:

-When you launch an application with the macro keys you have to hit it twice because it launches in the background, not focused, this is especially a pain with the calculator and when combined with the next issue:

-Can’t control iTunes unless iTunes has focus. This is a MAJOR disappointment, I don’t know if it can control play/pause etc in Windows Media Player when its minimized, but who uses that?

-The “1-5″ buttons on the top bar can ONLY be programmed to launch an application, they can’t take recorded macros like other hot keys

-Reply/forward e-mail buttons don’t work w/ gmail, but that’s to be expected so its not a big con

I’d give this keyboard a 5 if it could control iTunes in the background.

I was looking forward to a new keyboard and this seemed to be a good deal. Well,Vista wouldn’t load the software so none of the “fancy” keys would work. All I could do was type email. No zoom, volume, none of the extra keys worked. Tried loading the disc that came with it first as per the instructions and it just stopped very quickly and gave me an error code of 1601 and told me to look in the “help” file. What help file!” Tried downloading the drivers from the Microsoft site too (waste of time). After searching the internet for hours and finding absolutely nothing that helped, I threw the stinking thing back into it’s box and made the return labels and can’t wait to unload this junky thing. I’ve had several keyboards and have just plugged them in and they worked for years on all my computers. But this one, What a dog! Without the disc and it’s users manual (I assume ones in there) you have no idea what half the keys are for or how to map them

Buy with care.

Oh, I’m typing on my Saitek II lighted keyboard I bought from amazon 3 years ago and have used it for 4+ hours every day since.

Well I am puzzled by the good reviews that this has received.

The good reviews make me think that I perhaps received a bad unit?

Many of the keys, particularly the space bar don’t register

all the time. I like the multi-media features, but actually

typing a document is a real chore.
