If you need a power cable, your options are limited. Either don’t buy one, or pray your battery lasts forever. Just buy the cable already; if you’re looking at this page, you need it.

This adapter looks just like the original that came with my Dell 1525 and it works just fine to power the computer. However, due to a misguided business plan by Dell, the Inspiron actually blocks non-Dell adapters from charging the laptop’s battery. I was hoping to save a few dollars off the Dell brand adapter, but they’ve made sure their customers have to shell out the full price to get a product that works as intended. Be wary of purchasing any non-manufacturer parts as this seems to be a pattern with Dell — search for “Dell laptop” and Google automatically suggests “Dell laptop battery not charging” so you know this isn’t an isolated problem.

I bought this product when my last dell charger stopped charging. It worked for a while, but then the connection between the extension and the AC adapter failed and is now useless. I don’t suggest purchasing this product.

This adapter was incredibly cheap, considering at dell.com these go for over $60.00! It works very well, and I have yet to have any problems. Perhaps I was an idiot in the first place to use the chord wrapping strap Dell puts on their adapters…. the cable eventually stripped and started sparking. So – be warned that you should use straps/velcro with care. I would definitely recommend this product, no problems to date and I’ve had it about a month. I only wish it was a 2-prong AC Adapter, as 3-prong are typically harder to find in outlets and frustrating to fit around other plugged devices.
