I like this laptop case. It has everything that I wanted in a bag, it’s slim, has optional shoulder strap, looks professional (speakeasy grey pinstripe), and my MBP fits with a speck satin case comfortably. What more could I ask for? I don’t get why they have a long strip on the front when the velcro is only on the corners. It’s a bit wasteful.

I was debating whether to get a simple neoprene cover or a nice shoulder bag. My conclusion is the Speck Bag gives you advantages of both. The Speck bag is a bit bulkier than a neoprene cover but it has more cushion. It’s protected on the outside by a nice looking, sturdy fabric and on the inside by a thick, plush lining…like the inside of a favorite sweatshirt. It holds your 13″ MacBook Pro snugly and securely. It also comes with a detachable shoulder strap, which gives you a carrying option the neoprene covers don’t. And unlike most carrying cases, the bag’s slim dimensions let you easily slip it into a shoulder bag or backpack. That gives your laptop even more protection when you need it or when you want to reduce your airline carry-ons. Because it’s so slim, the bag won’t carry a lot of extra things on its own. There is a thin inside pocket that’s good for papers or maybe a magazine. You can also use it for your power supply if you wish. But anything much wider than that will make the bag look a little lumpy and may make closing the Velcro strips awkward. For those times you need to drag along more more stuff, just slip your Speck bag into a backpack and you’re good to go. I like the versatility and Amazon’s price makes it a good buy.

This Tuck Pack Gray Pinstripe is an inconspicuous sleeve which safely holds a 13 inch macbook pro. The outer material is made of the same type of material that most Jansport Backpacks are made of: a course type of polyester that feels durable for using the bag as a stand alone or within a backpack.

The bag comes with two compartments. One for the laptop is lined with a soft material that is 70% polyester and 30% nylon that won’t scratch your laptop. It feels like a fine carpet.

The second compartment, made of 100% nylon, can be used to carry a few items such as the power cord, some dvds, external mouse, mp3 player and even a digital camera with a width of two inches.

The overlapping flap keeps the bag closes with the use of velcro.

I’d give the sleeve portion 5 stars.

With the strap the bag has a slightly feminine look. With the strap removed and the bag reduced to just the sleeve portion it looks unisex in design. The bag feels slightly awkward with the strap attached as the connectors are located on one side of the bag and the strap ends do not rotate. However the strap is padded and feels comfortable to use.

It is possible to to carry the bag in one’s hand but ideally it fits quite well in a backpack.

Pros:

+Durable shell

+Two compartments

+Secondary compartment makes the sleeve practical

+Detachable strap

+Strap is adjustable

Cons:

- With attached strap it can feel slightly awkward

Ideally I’d give this a 4.5 out of 5 but Amazon doesn’t allow for half stars so five stars it is.
