Targus Chromatic Messenger Designed to Protect 16″ Laptops TBM060US

At the time of the writing of this review, I only recently got the Targus Chromatic Messenger laptop bag. I will update my review later if needed. I mostly use a backpack for school and work, and bought a messenger bag for occasional uses only.
Briefly, this bag seems to be constructed well and looks like it will last for a long time. One important thing I look for in any type of bag is water resistance. This is a big thing for me since I mostly walk or bike to work and school. So, as soon as I got mine out of the box, I splashed the exterior with water, and yes, it is water resistant. Besides, as the manufacturer’s website says, this bag has a water-resistant case bottom (which I believe, is kind of an inner water resistant layer). My guess is that the stuff I’ll carry in it will stay dry during a downpour.
Another thing I was looking for was a carrying capacity ranging from fair to good (but not too bulky). I have been able to pack 3-inch thick worth of books, in addition to my 15.4 in MSi gaming laptop. This bag seems to inflate to create more room for my extra stuff. I could have added one extra inch-thick worth of stuff, but I do not intend to test this bag to its limit: I will only use it occasionally, to carry a few stuff at a time. I rate its carrying capacity as good for a laptop messenger bag: without putting any undue stress on it, in addition to your laptop, you should be able to pack your laptop charger, and 2 books and maybe even a small binder.
The shoulder strap has a padded area for comfort which you can slide along the shoulder strap. Also, you can adjust the length of the shoulder strap to a maximum of about 4 feet 5 inches (I measured it). One thing which I look for in ANY type of shoulder strap is a clip at each end of the strap, made of metal as opposed to plastic, which you clip to a triangular thingy (I don’t know the exact word to use) on each side of the main bag to connect the two together. I hate plastic since it breaks so easily under heavy loads and brings up buyer’s remorse! I happy to inform potential buyers that both the clips and the triangular thingies of this bag are both metallic. I suppose you can also deduce this by taking a close look at this product’s pictures.
The top handle is not really exactly at the top the bag, but slightly behind it. It is actually sewn at the top of the back side of this Targus messenger bag. What this means is, if you are carrying this bag by its handle just like you would carry a briefcase, the bag will not hang vertically in air, but inclined at some slight angle, depending on the weight you are carrying. Not really that much of an issue to me, but I think it would have been a plus for this product if the handle was positioned exactly at the top. I suppose the reason the handle is placed where it is is mostly a matter of fashion.
The laptop compartment is padded with thick foam on all sides, which should give a reasonable amount of protection to your laptop.
I think that you shouldn’t make this laptop bag stand on a rough-surfaced floor : the base doesn’t have any rubber ‘stands’ (my former Targus messenger bag, which is an old version of the Targus TBC023US laptop case, had those!).
Right now, I recommend this product.

I just got the Dell Inspiron 1440 14 inch lap top. Had a horrible time finding a bag for it. This one I bought in person at a competitor’s store. It fits my new lap top with minimal space around it, plus there is a strap to secure it into the compartment. There is an additional pocket sufficient for file folders and the like. There is a nice size area for the power cord. Then there is another section with compartments for whatever.
Really, really nice padding too to protect my laptop.
Really like that I don’t have to zip open an entire case to put in our take out the lap top. It’s not because of laziness I say this. It’s because if you multi task like I do many times, I can see myself putting the lap top into one that has to be zipped around the entire case, and then forgetting it’s not zipped up and picking it up by the strap.
One like this, where you slide it into the compartment, the laptop is still pretty safe once in.
Only thing that might be an issue is the green lining. I’m ok with it, but if you hate lime green, that might be an issue. For me it’s just the lining, so who cares.
