A year ago, I bought Pinnacle’s Instant DVD Creator w/DVC90 capture device. I like the Pinnacle software, but always had a problem with the DVC90, which finally quit. I picked this up as a replacement, and installed it on my XP powered dv8000 HP notebook. Works great,no problems. I saw the bad Vista review and can sympathize. I’ve also had problems with Vista’s compatibilty issues on other devices (haven’t tried this device on the platform). Bottom line…..this device works great for me. The Chinese to English translator needs a little work on his sentence stucture, however.

The product arrived quickly, but both the Amazon description and the poorly translated manual failed to inform me that it was completely incompatible with my 64-bit Vista OS, news I had to hear directly from the seller in the process of asking for a refund.
“Vista compatible” is thoroughly misleading, and would have been even more so had I not known to ask about the 32-bit/64-bit difference. After spending many fruitless hours searching for a way to install the drivers to this device I also learned that even those with appropriate operating systems had more than their fair share of frustration in trying to go through the “very simple” installation process.
At the very least I expect an institution I trust as much as Amazon to verify the information on the basis of which I wasted time and money, though I realize (or at least assume) that the site is constantly working towards improving quality, including by way of these reviews?
I have returned this product, but my shipping cost, as well as my time, will not be refunded.
The seller’s communication was quick and respectable, and I thank the seller, but I cannot give this product more than 1 star.

Can’t beat the price and it works on Vista 32 bit.
Note, you will need a basic composite video cable (with male heads on both sides, red, yellow, white), since the inputs are all female and whatever you are getting the video from will also all be female.
The Software worked on Vista 32 bit, but I found that the free program AMcap (just google it) worked better (didn’t seem to lag in longer videos). Make sure that under the Devices tab that the Microphone USB Audio Interface is selected, that capturing audio is selected and the composite video is set. Also, setting it to the WMV compression, seemed to create less lag. Note, when preview the audio plays, when capturing the audio will not play (but the recorded file will have the audio on it). Also, it suggest the video file will be many many many gigabits in size, but will really be in the hundreds of MB.
I can only FULLY recommend this for SHORTER videos or videos that you don’t mind breaking up, as longer recordings can tend to start lagging where it jumps or where the
For the free software that cam with the product, on the Capture Tab, click on the Options icon and under “Capture Options” make sure that the box “Capture Audio” is selected, and under the same Options icon, select, “Video and Audio Capture Property Settings”, and check the box under the Source tab that says “Preview audio from USB device”. Under the same Source tab, make sure that under Video, Input Source is set to “Video Composite”. Under the Capture Tab, the “Use Software Compression” might help with lag between the audio and video.

Received the part, told them about it and they gave me an address to send it back to. I did and receieved no refund and they are not responding to email.
So unless you plan to just donate money to their company, don’t buy from this user!

I was using this to capture the saved DVR episodes from my DTV-DVR with the hopes of putting shows on DVDs.
First, the capture does NOT read the yellow analog input. You must “trick” it into using the s-video. The s-video ONLY works if you save in certain formats (.mpeg, .avi) which are the larger formats. The video quality is excellent if you are willing to have huge file sizes (10 minutes will be larger than 250 MB).
THE SOUND!?!?!??!?! An absolute joke. Of course you must adjust the input level lower than MAX, which is the default, but ANY FILE LONGER THAN 8-10 MINUTES AND THE SOUND NO LONGER SYNCS WITH THE VIDEO. I did a show that was 50+ minutes long and by the end of it, the sound was a full 4-5 seconds behind the video. TERRIBLE. I had to save it in sections of 10 Minutes at a time and then edit it together myself. AND I DID NOT USE THEIR LACKING SOFTWARE. Don’t use it, it is pathetic. I had to use the windows installed Movie Maker, which was great.
Summation: If you want cheap cost and you only have short videos, buy this product. If you want longer videos and possibly burn them onto DVDs, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.
